City Gay Tours offers the opportunity to visit Uppsala, a religious and learning center since medieval times. Spend the day exploring the forth largest city in Sweden, to learn about its history and culture from our local guide.
We will meet in the Stockholm Central Station and take a 50-minute train ride to Uppsala. During this train ride you can enjoy the countryside of Sweden.
Once in Uppsala, discover the history behind the castle of Uppsala (Uppsala Slott) before visiting one of Europe’s oldest gardens, the Botanical garden.
After enjoying a walk through the Botanical garden we will visit the University of Stockholm. (Currently, the Main Building is closed for interior renovations) We can admire the magnificent neoclassical styled building build in 1887 from the outside and you will learn about Sweden’s oldest university history, dating back to 1477.
Then we will walk to visit the Scandinavia’s largest cathedral, before dive deeper into the history into the Vendel-Viking Age by exploring an archeological site in Old Uppsala. We will see the burial grounds combined with a visit to the local museum.
After some free time to lunch we will continue to Gamla Uppsala, one of the oldest towns in Sweden and also an old pagan Viking settlement. We will visit the oldest Gothic cathedral in Scandinavia and uncover Uppsala’s Viking past where you can still see the Viking royal burial mounds and medieval roots.
Before finish the tour, we will be experiencing fika – traditional coffee and cake break Swedish style. Yummy!!
